This is the first Russian lacquer box that I bought in Russia in 1983. It is based on a Russian fairy tale of the Hump-Backed Pony. Here Ivan is with the pony and he has just found a golden feather from the firebird, a highly coveted, illusive bird. The feather is an indication of a journey ahead that usually involves magical helpers.
