teenagers

I've never seen this before but these 2 seagulls must be transitioning from youngsters to adults.  You can see the adult plumage starting to show on their backs.

warbler

I think that this poor little bird is an immature female warbler.  I found her on the driveway by my car.  I'm not sure what happened but I'd guess that somehow she flew into my car.  The warbler turns yellow as it matures; this little bird was olive green, including the underside.

I don't have a telephoto lens on my camera so I had to wait for the robin to come to me.  But, my standard method of talking to birds seemed to work - he was just as intrigued by me as I was by him.

These two herons were sitting here all afternoon. I think they are waiting for their homes to be built further down the street in Stanley Park.

the colony



Currently these nests are empty but in February the heron colony will be back.  It is quite a sight to see these giant prehistoric birds standing in their homes, protecting and feeding their young.
