Another ghostly chalk drawing based on the art of J.W. Waterhouse.  He was born in Italy in 1849 to British parents.  They returned to England in 1854 and lived near the Victoria and Albert Museum that had opened 2 years earlier.  Imagine having the V&A as your local cultural hangout!

ophelia

This chalk drawing by a Victoria street artist is based on the art of J.W. Waterhouse. He is considered a modern Pre-Raphaelite, working at the end of the 19th, beginning of the 20th centuries.

Ophelia is putting flowers in her hair, moments before her death by drowning.

This particular drawing had been rained on for 3 days so that added to its ghostly quality.

I took this photo several years ago - I wonder if this art still exists?

little girls

I took this photo several years ago. I've always liked the blue paint colour that was done after the girls. You can see flecks of it on the pavement. The shadow of the tree is a little ominous.  Be careful, you're on a busy street.

The John Lennon Wall in Prague. It was started after his death in 1980 and survived attempts at removal by Communist authorities. Now it is a tourist attraction.
